Yam Porridge, also known as Yam soup or Asaro, can be prepared with or without green vegetables for colour and nutrition.


Serves – 6 people

A tuber of yam

Ground tomatc / Blended pepper

Chopped onions

Vegetable leaves (optional)

Shredded Smoked fish

Ground Crayfish (optional)

Ponmo (optional)

Mamador Pure Vegetable Oil or Mamador Virgin Palm Oil

Seasoning cubes




Salt to taste


Step 1

Peel, cut and wash the yam pieces and place in the pot. Add water which just covers the yam

Step 2

Bring the yam to boil

Step 3

Add the chopped onion, tomato/ pepper, curry, thyme, smoked fish, ponmo, and seasoning cubes.

Step 4

Boil till yam is almost cooked, about 15 minutes.

Step 5

Add the grounded crayfish, taste for salt and cook for 3 minutes.

Step 6

Stir with a wooden spoon to help mash some pieces of yam to thicken the sauce.

Step 7

Add Mamador Pure Vegetable Oil or Mamador Virgin Palm Oiland cook for another 3 minutes.

Step 8

Finally add the vegetables and cook for 2 minutes.
